One of the causes is the use of medications such as cortisone or prednisone in a chronic way, either in drops, inhalation or pills.

Cataract is one of the most common eye diseases attended by ophthalmologists and one of the leading causes of blindness in the world. Cataracts affect 2% of the world's population.

It is very sad to note that specifically in Mexico, due to lack of information, people who with a simple surgery can recover the whole vision, continue to remain blind.

Cataract is the opacity of the lens. The lens is inside the eye and, as the name implies, must be completely transparent. However, over the years the crystalline lens loses its transparency and becomes like a white wall or a frosted glass. The patient with cataracts can see from the other side, but does not distinguish the detail and, little by little, loses sight.

Causes of cataracts

Cataracts can be of the congenital type, that is, they present from birth. There are also the traumatic cataracts, which are caused by a blow with a fist, with the foot, with a ball or with some object in fall.

Another cause is the use of medications such as cortisone or prednisone in a chronic way, either in drops, inhalation or pills.

Cataracts can also occur for metabolic reasons such as kidney disease and diabetes.

The most frequent age of the appearance of the cataracts is from the 50 years until the 80 years.
