appendicitis Appendectomy is the surgical procedure by which the inflamed appendix is removed from the body. It can be performed using different techniques, preferably the minimally invasive (laparoscopic) approach, which is performed by small incisions using a special camera and small instruments, allowing a faster recovery and an excellent cosmetic result.

The importance of early detection

Acute appendicitis is one of the most common surgical conditions. Occurs in anyone who has not previously had the appendix removed. The appendix is a small prolongation (like a finger) that is in the cecum, the first portion of the colon and has an immunological function in childhood. Obstruction of your light causes secretions to build up inside and ignite. If not resolved early, the disease progresses in approximately 24-48 hours, and can lead to gangrene, perforation of the appendix and generalized peritonitis.

Symptomatology

Symptoms begin with very nonspecific abdominal pain, usually in the upper or middle abdomen. During the first 24 hours, the "typical" symptoms of the disease are usually manifested: pain in the lower right part of the abdomen, nausea and lack of appetite; the pain is constant and is getting more intense, in addition is sharpened with movements such as jumping, or go through a bump in the car.

Efficient operation

The minimally invasive procedure (laparoscopic) consists of using the small instruments to go and remove the inflamed tissue and remove it from the body, also if there is a perforation of the appendix or pus in the abdominal cavity, a copious washing is done to clean the abdominal cavity. Sometimes it is necessary to leave a drainage, a small tube that is removed in the early postoperative period to help evacuate contaminated material that may remain in the cavity.
