Although the causes of breast cancer have not been precisely established, however, there are well-identified risk factors that are involved in the development of the disease.

Dr. Antonio Maffuz Aziz

Breast cancer is an overproliferation or accelerated growth of cells originating in the mammary glands, which undergo some genetic disarray.

Some of the symptoms of breast cancer are the presence of a nodule (tumor), which usually has a progressive growth, the presence of blood-like sectioning through the nipple, alterations in the skin (retraction, sagging, ulcer), or asymmetry between both breasts. Malignant tumors of the mammary glands have the ability to "migrate" through the lymphatic ducts or blood into different parts of the body, forming what is known as "metastasis."

The causes of breast cancer are not known for sure, but there are risk factors that make it possible to identify these factors in each woman, we can take medical actions to reduce the risk of suffering.

These risk factors can be presented by any patient, mainly female, since breast cancer can also occur in men. Some situations that have been associated with breast cancer are family history, especially when several close relatives have breast cancer or related cancer.

There are also some external factors such as the use of hormone replacement therapy after menopause, chronic tobacco and alcohol consumption, obesity, sedentary lifestyle and the presence of pre-cancerous conditions.

The treatment of breast cancer is multidisciplinary, this means that the participation of different specialists is required to successfully eradicate the disease. The modadlidades of treatment are the surgery, the chemotherapy, the radiotherapy and the antihormonal or endocrino treatment. Generally, more than one treatment is applied to achieve a greater probability of eradication of the disease.

A good news is that breast cancer has a cure despite being, at present, the most frequent cancer in women, both nationally and globally. But yes, breast cancer has a fairly high cure probability especially if it is detected in a timely manner and specialized treatment is received.
