The hiatal hernia comes in two forms. The first is by slip that is characterized by the junction of the gastric esophagus and the herniated stomach in the thorax, being the most frequent. The second is when the stomach is in normal position but the bottom or other organs pass through the hiatus.

Causes, Symptoms and Frequency

The cause of this is not yet known, especially when there is a wide gap, increased cough pressure, exertion, pregnancy and weight gain.

The people at highest risk present this are those over the age of 50 or overweight population, especially women and smokers.

The hiatal hernia is found in the 80 to 90% patient with GERD. Slipped or for esophageal. And reflux is in 20% population, with symptoms of 4 to 7%. There are people who are asymptomatic, however, among the most frequent symptoms are related to gastroesophageal reflux disease, such as retro sternal burning, heartburn, sour or bitter taste, belching, bloating, chest pain, nausea or vomiting.

How is it treated?
