The most frequent injuries of the joints can be divided into: sports and degenerative.

Dr. Ramiro Ramírez Gutiérrez

Joint injuries are divided into sports and degenerative. Sports injuries are those related to physical activity, especially sports. Degenerative lesions or degenerative diseases refer to the use and abuse, over time, of cartilage, ligaments and tendons. These two types of injuries must be treated in a timely manner by a traumatologist and orthopedist .

Some of the causes of joint injuries are extreme sports or heavy or excessive loads, as these activities favor the appearance of injuries at a very young age.

Among the most common sports injuries are the meniscus, which are the "shock absorbers" that have the knee, or in the rotator handle, tendon that is responsible for lifting the shoulder.

More frequent injuries and some preventive measures

Another common injury is known as sprains, ie when some part of the body, usually the ankle, is twisted, over-rotated or stagnant on the floor and one rotates on the ankle. Before this, the common thing is to suffer from inflammation and pain.

For this, the doctor prescribes anti-inflammatories, rest and physical therapy with the aim of improving 90% in the first two weeks.

Something important to mention for people who exercise, especially if they are over 30 or 40, is warm stretching well before exercising.

The most common degenerative lesions of the joints are in the knee, for example, specifically, in the cartilage. Cartilage is the surface that causes bone to not collide with bone. At first the cartilage begins to soften and then to crack and finally, craters are formed inside the cartilage and literally begins to collide bone to bone.
