Travel medicine is a discipline that can sometimes be understood as a subspecialty for infectious diseases.

Dr. Arturo Galindo Fraga

When people leave their country of origin they are prone to acquire infectious diseases at their destination. For this reason it is important a valuation before and after the trip. This is because, some people, after leaving their place of residence and returning from a trip develop symptoms of diseases that are not so frequent in their place of origin, but in countries they traveled.

Given this, a specialist can carry hand in hand in everything related to the preparation of a trip especially when a patient has a chronic illness. This is done so that the patient knows how to behave in the event of an eventuality and what preventive measures must be taken, the medicines to be carried and the vaccines that must be applied before reaching a certain country.

Diseases that care for traveler's medicine

Travelers' medicine treats infectious-contagious diseases such as malaria, yellow fever, as well as some infections related to contact with fresh or salty water. Also treated are some other diseases that are not infectious diseases such as mountain sickness or altitude sickness, or the prevention of rabies when it comes to contact with an infected animal outside of the place of residence.

Until now, traveler's medicine in Mexico is a discipline that is still very young. However, due to the increase of the international trips that have had the inhabitants of the country, it begins to be more aware of the necessity to go to a specialist.
