Infertility is the inability to conceive naturally.

Dra.. Karla Paola Lara Guerrero

Normally, 85% of couples who stop taking care of their pregnancies succeed after a year, and 93% after two years, however, if that time is not achieved, the couple is not at all healthy. Infertility affects 1 in 8 couples. This problem affects both women and men, but is greater in women (50%).

Infertility can not be prevented, therefore, it is important to avoid the use of drugs and alcohol, as well as periodically attend the Gynecologist. It is also recommended to avoid exposure to toxic substances or radiation.

It is said that infertility is asymptomatic, that is, there is no characteristic symptom. Although there are some signs that may indicate that it is time to go with a specialist in Gynecology and Obstetrics, such as:

Signs on women:

  • Excessive pain during menstruation
  • Heavy bleeding
  • Pelvic pain
  • Irregular periods
  • Acne

Signs on men:

  • Difficulty achieving an erection
  • Decreased libido
  • Hair loss
  • Dry skin
  • Excessive Sweating
  • Mood swings

Causes of Infertility

The treatment that is required depends on the cause of not being able to become pregnant, it can be through hormones, supplements, antibiotics, or surgical treatment in case of having to remove scars or tumors. There is also artificial insemination or in vitro fertilization. Some of the causes are:

1- Women: Ovulation problems, hormonal alteration, stress, alcohol and drug consumption, tumors, damage to the fallopian tubes, pelvic infections, endometrial polyps, chronic diseases

2- Men: Alteration in ejaculation, sperm abnormalities, alcohol and drug consumption, hypothalamic disorder

It is important to mention that most of these causes have a solution for the couple.
