Psychotherapy is a way to treat problems of an emotional nature. In this therapy the patient will establish a professional relationship with the expert in order to eliminate, modify or delay existing symptoms, altered patterns of behavior or even to grow as people.

Dra.. Susana Olvera Cane

Family therapy can be used as a single therapeutic method or in combination with other treatments such as individual therapy, drug therapy, group therapy, among others.

Types of family therapy:

  1. Crisis intervention : Its objective is to prevent or prevent the imminent decompensation of the family relations of one or more members.
  2. Brief Family Therapy : It takes place when there is a symptom or conflict that everyone perceives and that, therefore, they are very motivated to work it together.
  3. Long-Term Family Therapy : Family members attend this type of therapy when they are experiencing serious problems in different settings or when short-term therapy was not helpful in resolving conflicts.

Difficulties of family therapy

  • Difficulties at the level of the therapist: The therapist must have perceptual, cognitive and affective skills that allow him / her to integrate into the family, without involving feelings.
  • Difficulties at the technical level: A systematic and structured training program is required, including not only theoretical training, but training at a personal technical level through constant supervision for a specific period.
  • Difficulties at the family level: The family itself as a system, as a social unit, is a complex phenomenon that needs to be studied from different points of view or approaches.
