chronic sinusitis Dr. Sergio Durand Oliver Paris

Sinusitis is the acute or long-term inflammation of the tissue covering the nose and sinuses (which are around the nose), causing many discomforts in the region of the face and should be treated by an otolaryngologist .

It can be caused by infections of bacterial, viral or fungal type, by allergy response to dust, pollen and others; or by reaction to the environment (contamination, temperature changes, exposure to chemicals and solvents) in sensitive patients.

The main symptoms are nasal congestion or obstruction to the passage of air, pain in the face, sensation of pressure in front, eyes and to the sides of the nose; abundant mucus that may be transparent to greenish, sometimes accompanied by repeated sneezing, runny mucus, general malaise, fever, and general condition. For example, a child who wakes up with a headache has sinusitis until he proves otherwise.

Diagnosis of sinusitis

The diagnosis is based on a good interview with the patient followed by the examination of the mouth, throat, nasal passages through direct vision with frontal lamp and endoscopy or direct microscopy examination. For confirmation, a computed tomography must be available in order to evaluate all the nasal structures and sinuses.
