Personality disorder: the environment as a risk factor (P1)

Personality disorder is a constant pattern of internal experience and behavior, which deviate from the expectations of the culture in which the individual has developed.

Dra.. Myrthala Juárez Treviño

The personality disorder is taken care of by mental health professionals and is a way of feeling or perceiving the things that cause problems for those who suffer it. The types of personality disorders that are known today are the paranoid, schizoid, schizotypal, borderline, narcissistic, histrionic, obsessive-compulsive, among others.

People with obsessive-compulsive disorder

It is important to recognize the difference between an obsessive personality disorder and an obsessive-compulsive disorder.

A person with obsessive personality disorder is perfectionist, rigid, persevering and unloving.

In the case of obsessive-compulsive people, it is necessary to perform a series of rituals in order not to feel anxious. For example: when people feel the need to wash their hands many times; or make sure that things are perfect or that they do not change. That causes problems in a person's relationship with others. Sometimes people do not tolerate a person with this condition and the patient also suffers a lot because he can not relax because he wants everything to be in order; otherwise, in their understanding, they will not work.

Family and environment as risk factors

It should be remembered that the personality itself is a particular way of each person to face or deal with the problems of everyday life. If the environment in which it was developed was hostile, it is more likely to be aggressive. Talking about personality disorders is when your behavior is not functional and causes problems with a degree of suffering for the person and those around you.
