Treatment for presbyopia

From a certain age people find it difficult to read the texts as the ability to focus is lost over the years.

The approach is established in an intraocular structure called crystalline, precisely because of its transparency. Due to aging, direct exposure to ultraviolet rays and the presence of diseases such as diabetes mellitus, the lens loses its elasticity and with it the ability to focus. This is known as lens dysfunction and a cataract must not be present to treat it.

Treatment

Temporary correction of presbyopia , tired sight or dysfunction of the lens may be initially performed by means of spectacles and / or contact lenses. The definitive correction of the presbyopia, tired sight or dysfunction of the lens is performed by means of a surgical procedure in which a femtosecond laser (LENSX), an ultrasound probe is taken care of and an intraocular lens of high technology.

Femtosecond laser surgery (LENSX) lasts approximately 15 minutes. First the procedure is performed on one eye and the following week, if possible, on the second eye. It is an ambulatory surgical procedure, that is, the stay in the hospital on average is 3 to 4 hours. If the patient is operated on in the morning, a situation that is recommended since a fasting of 8 hours prior, in the afternoon, after the effects of the pupil dilation has disappeared, the patient will recover the vision.

High-tech intraocular lenses

High-tech intraocular lenses serve to replace the function of the lens when it is dysfunctional. They are microlenses made of a biocompatible material, that is, no rejection phenomenon is established, implanted and remain inside the eyes of the patient throughout his life.

Through a special optical design, the patient can recover the distant, intermediate and near vision. It is ideal to implant it in both eyes, with a week of difference, because the human vision is bilateral.
