Fecal incontinence is the inability to voluntarily control the evacuation of intestinal contents. Depending on the degree of damage, may cause occasional small leaks or, in advanced degrees, total loss of control of bowel movements. This is a very common ailment in older adults because the muscles responsible for this control have been weakening over the years, but can also be caused by excessive consumption of laxatives, periods of severe diarrhea, chronic constipation, or after surgery gynecological, prostate and rectal. It is essential to find the cause before beginning any treatment. You may resort to surgery to repair damaged muscles, but more important is to take adequate to the causes that have led to diet: for constipation, fiber-based; in case of chronic diarrhea by eating foods that restructure the intestinal flora.
