Gum recession is the migration of the gingival margin exposing tooth root. The most common causes are periodontal disease, a traumatic brushing, dental malposition, incorrect dental treatment or mechanical trauma. Gum recession can lead to hypersensitivity to heat and cold, root caries, progressive loss of the gum and bone that supports the tooth and, in extreme cases, can lead to tooth loss. To address this problem should be eliminated first causative factor, then surgery may pose to coat the gum.
