Dr Tello was absolutely outstanding from the start to finish of my treatment in Mexico. I dislocated and broke my ankle and required surgery. He made me feel reassured about this and provided exemplary after care. He visited each day and personally provided wound care. He provided advice and guidance in regards to medical repatriation and next steps upon our return home. Moreover, Dr Tello went above and beyond in assisting us with documentation and liaising with the hospital administration and insurance company in a challenging situation. We had complete confidence in him every step of the way and cannot recommend Dr Tello highly enough. I feel extremely fortunate to have had Dr Tello as my surgeon in this situation.

I broke my collarbone when I was on holiday in Tulum Mexico and had to have surgery. I was lucky to find Dr. Tello who turned out to be the most trustworthy, competent surgeon. My scar is hardly visible, the surgery went without any complications. He did an incredible job!

From: Ralph and Kim Thomas Subject: Our Experience With Dr Tello And Kim Fractured Pelvis In Playa Del Carmen While vacationing in Playa del Carmen, Kim had a late-night fall headed to the bathroom. What we first thought was a sore bottom turned out to be two fractures in the pelvis. Our doctor, Jose Alberto Lopez Tello, an orthopedic surgeon, was referred to us by Dr. Carlos Ramirez of Playa who does house calls for tourists in need of medical care. Dr. Tello must be described as confident, competent, capable, and has an excellent and calming manner which made us feel tremendously relieved. His diagnosis was quickly done after seeing the X-rays and Scans and he proceeded to arrange for us to enter the Hospital for surgery. He worked directly with the Hospital Administration to get us admitted and scheduled. In scheduling the surgery and preliminary blood work he found that Kim’s hemoglobin was at 10 rather than the desired level of at least 13. This needed to be improved before surgery and required 3 units of O negative blood. The hospital found only 2 units of this extremely rare blood type. Dr. Tello, also O negative, donated 1 unit of his blood to Kim so that the surgery could proceed. Dr. Tello performed a complicated surgery to repair the fractures. The most complicated repair involved installation of a curved reconstruction plate 9 cm 10 orifice titanium appliance using 7 screws to repair a Type B fracture across the pubic arch. This involved surgery through the lower abdomen resembling a C Section to insert and fix the appliance. The second repair involved a vertical fracture extending downward at the ilium/sacrum. This was accomplished using a cannulated full thread screw 6.5 x 90 to rejoin the ilium to the sacrum. The repairs were further complicated by the condition of the bone which we now know were osteoporotic and need medical treatment going forward. Dr. Tello frequently followed up on the status of Kim. We also frequently texted questions and information with Dr. Tello and continued to do so even after leaving the Hospital. He even made a house call to remove the stiches. He then arranged for physical therapy for Kim as the poor bone quality necessitated six weeks of bed confinement with no pressure from standing on two feet whatsoever. We were relieved and thankful for his skills as a surgeon and his dedication to the welfare of the patient in helping us through an unfortunate accident. We remain in contact with Dr Tello about Kim’s progress to this day. Kim and Ralph Thomas are US citizens, retired, and currently living in Dallas, Texas
